The Beijing Economic-technological Development Area, or BDA, recently held a ceremony to
officially put into operation the wireless broadband metropolitan area network that will cover the
e-Town (Yizhuang) area.
The occasion marks a milestone in the development of e-Town's information infrastructure. The
first phase of the network project, now in operation, covers about 15 square kilometers,
encompassing BDA's core area.
The three-phase project is the country's first wireless broadband project that uses the
Chinese-developed Multi-carrier Wireless Information Local Loop or McWiLL technology, a wireless
broadband access standard optimized for wide coverage.
The second and third phases of the project will proceed according to the development of BDA and
e-Town.
The construction of the wireless broadband network is part of BDA's effort to provide
convenient infrastructure and support facilities to enterprises in the area.
In its 17 years of development, BDA has attracted more than 2,600 enterprises from more than 30
countries and regions to the area. These enterprises include 66 Fortune 500 companies.
